We were approached by the client to give guidance and produce drawings for planning and building regulations approval, with the brief of enlarging the existing kitchen and giving a separate utility and shower room. There was a big emphasis put on a modern design, with plenty of natural lighting, but it was also important to ensure that the new extension flowed with the existing property, and made use of the existing buildings footprint.
As all our projects we carried out a detailed measured survey of the existing building, before producing initial sketch designs to produce to the client and exchange ideas. The property sat on a decent size portion of land but the adjacent boundary cut in, leaving more space at the rear than at the front, we designed with this in mind and stepped the extension to suit the boundary.
Our scope of works also included an application to Severn Trent for the diversion of the mains sewer run which ran directly under the proposed extension.
The client is extremely happy with the final product, and cannot believe the extent of the space created. the new kitchen is modern in design but externally the extension still reflects the age and design of the original property. The standard of work on site is second to none, and the extension as become a real asset to the property and the client.
