Rear Extension. The Field, Shipley.

We were approached by our client to look into the possibility of building a two story extension to the rear of his property. The detached Victorian property was set in its own grounds on the edge of Shipley Country Park, Heanor, Derbyshire and lay within the Shipley Country Park Conservation Area. The brief was to create an extra first floor master bedroom incorporating an en-suite shower room, the main obstacle of this being that a row of outbuildings stood in the way and would need to be demolished to make way for the new extension, at present these out building housed the oil fired central heating boiler and food freezers. It was put to the Planning and Conservation Officers that this was not an ideal situation as the outbuildings had become damp through age and were not initially designed for this use, and if we could remove them the ground floor area to be created underneath the new bedroom could be used for this purpose, this argument was accepted by both Offices, but stipulated that the new extension would need to be in keeping and be sympathetic with the existing dwelling both in design and construction. Our  designs were accepted and permission was granted by both the Planning and Conservation Departments. The building work started in summer 2012 and is due to be completed in December 2012
